They have them, they're just not very popular. Credit Card CD formats are often included with small booklets, like phrase books and maps, and fit in the Mini CD (8 cm) slots in drives. These can't really contain much data in their CD-ROM incarnations, and there isn't any urgent need to replace the 12CM CDs and DVDs as it is.

With USB pen drives filling the high-density, small-profile storage niche, it's a common consensus that the 12 cm format is "practical enough".

Three word answer: why should they?

What's "wrong" with the larger diameter CD's and DVD's? Is there something smaller, just as cheap or cheaper, and just as reliable? No there isn't.

So why should they get rid of the large ones again? You didn't name any reasons that they should.

(The drives are compatible with both larger and smaller media any way)
