I have been both a cigarette smoker and a marijuana smoker now for 10 yrs. while i smoke outside my house and don't let people smoke around my kids. I've kept the pot hidden. I can't help but wonder that some day when they're older some drunk relative at a wedding will mention that i smoke pot. Keep in mind i'm fr. Canada where everyone smokes weed. I've even smoked with some of our boys in blue. Should i let it be known now to avoid resentment later?

What you do is your business but if your children are young, I would not volunteer that information, unless they come to you to talk about their experience with one or both. I don't believe in hypocrisy but unless the subject comes up, no need to discuss it now. Oh and to answer your question, no it is not right to hide something from your kids.

No, I don't think you should tell them if you don't want to...your kids don't need to know every little thing......you didn't say how old they were ..so I am assuming they are still pretty young......maybe ,when they are older or if one of your drunken relatives opens their mouth...you might need to tell them than..but for now..no.......this information is not something that will cause them harm later on...or really change their lives in anyway...so there is no need....

as far as resentments..I hate to be the barer of bad news...but it seems that all children end up having some kind or another resentments against their parents....I have already warned mine that they didn't come with an instruction manual and that I am bound to make mistakes here and there..but I will do the best I can and for them to get over it ..and when they make a mistake I will do the same for them...lol....

besides you have a good excuse for not wanting smoke around them...and you can used this later on if they bring it up....

~Hiding your question marks didn't work, you only need one.
It doesn't matter if you think "everyone" else does it or if it is even legal, it's not good for you. The very fact that you hide it from your children is a sign that you know it's not something you should be doing and it's not something you want them to be doing.
NO, don't tell them, they'll grow up thinking it's okay. Please give up POT and CIGARETTE smoking. Smoking outside is not enough, I've been there. It's a good start though. You are the most important teacher to your children, and they live what they learn. They learn from watching you. It is hard to quit, but it is very possible. Get the patch or lozenges, see your doctor. You'll save your health, money, and your children's lives. (In the future)
Good luck to you.~

Yes.
It's the same thing here, my step father got me hitting spotties at 13

Dont try to hide it to long, and Warn them about telling anyone else, and i respect you for not smoking around your kids
most parents dont give a flying F*** about second hand smoking and what it does to children

Regardless of whether they know or not, you should expect your children to do exactly what you do. Deceive loved ones, smoke, break the law. The true sign of a persons character is what they do when no one is watching.

Why don't you just stop doing such a stupid thing? Don't you know that weed kills brain cells??? You're supposed to be responsible since you have children, so, I think it's time for you to grow up and drop that s*** once and for all.

DEPENDS how old they are. you dont want then running off to school and telling their friends and teachers unaware of what the consequences are..

I say if their old enough yeah... why not.. but if you dont want to keep a secret, they might get angry when they find out- but they will get over it!
