I believe that the inside of the bottle is coated with Teflon®. Prior to the invention of Teflon®, however, I am uncertain as to the reasons why.

It has to do with curing. Curing is a chemical or physical process that causes and adhesive to bond to the surface it's applied to. It may require exposure to air; it may need only time. Some glues won't begin curing until the proper chemical mixture is prepared, like epoxy.
If you take a water soluable glue, like Elmer's, and let the water evaporate out, i.e. dry, it will form a strong bond until it gets wet. Water will start dissolving the glue back in to a liquid state (or at least semi-viscous).
Glue won't stick to the inside of the bottle when it's fresh, but if you let it sit long enough, it will harden, or cure.

well it does.. mine has on several occasions in grade one :P leave the top off it will stick perfectly fine plus, the glue on the outside is different from the inside. its coated with something that stops it from sticking to the bottle.

elmers type glue wont stick to plastic anywhere, put some on a bit of plastic and let it dry, then you can peel it right off, it doesnt dry in the bottle easily because of the way the lid fits tight.

because it needs to dry out in order to stick. that's why when you leave it open the top gets all crusty and hard

Funny.
It's like, "Why doesn't the chemical that can burn a hole through anything burn through the test tube?"
Then they tell you, "Oh, it needs air to work."
"Ohhhh..."
God bless.
