I dont know if this is "significant" but I think I did once. In Sweden taxes are extremely high on most goods. A lot of professionals barter to avoid the taxes all together. I lived there for a year and met an optometrist who wanted me to tutor his son in economics for the school year. In return I got a Lasik eye surgery.

Barter is often used in personal transactions. For example, in dog breeding, a kennel who studs out a male may accept a puppy in return instead of cash.

People may trade services, like housesitting, etc.


On a personal level, a barter transaction is relatively common, for a large company it is not.
