Might I suggest that when prayer was removed from schools, some folks felt they had been rather intolerantly mistreated?

I've seriously looked into your very question. Where did the great divide originate, in earnest, in modern times?

Many Conservatives believe the day the gavel was thrown down was the day God was thrown out of their schools. The irony, of course, is that they believe THEY have been the victims of religious intolerance, and therefor denied their right to pursue the religion of their choice without fear of persecution.

Quite frankly, Christians felt attacked. And they were a sleeping giant.

To this day I meet and talk with Liberals who not only see this event as a non-issue, but can hardly, with severe prompting, even begin to recognize the significance of the issue to Conservatives at all. They simply don't think it mattered, or does matter.

And it doesn't, in one sense, any more. The war has moved on. But that might have been the first bullet, a shot only the Conservatives themselves seem to have heard.

I believe historians will one day look back and see that, along with Roe V. Wade, as the shots that began the war. Cold or otherwise.

I haven't, I believe that Religion is a personal connection with you and your higher power which I prefer to call God. Politics never will side up with the Ten Commandments and Gods will anyway. In America with a two party system, and many different forms of Religion all this causes is disrespect of others rights that are defined in our Constitution. I believe that our founding fathers knew this better than what is presently going on with the Bush Administration when they created the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The founders knew that without a Nation and laws there wouldn't be any Religions to follow. This is what makes America a Democracy.

it has been said that once a politician is elected their primary objective is to get re-elected,so in the current political climate god is a "touch-stone" to the most people.
