The best AGP (that's what the 9600 pro was) is without a doubt the Radeon X1950 PRO 512 MB AGP card
see here: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=326860
at 234.99 & free shipping it's in your budget...BUT...BIG...BUT
you need to make sure you have enough computer to run this card...the 9600 PRO is an old card and if you have had the computer that long it may not have whats needed to run this card.
It needs at least:
Pentium 4 or AMD Athlon 64FX CPU
450 Watt Power Supply, with 30 amps on 12 volt rail (must boxs over 2yrs old will have less)
512 mb ram (minimum)
AGP 3.0 slot
Super VGA or DVI-I compatible monitor
windowa XP, XP64 or 2000.
Check out the system requirements on the site above...
If that's too much card for your system tell us what you have and we can recommend from there

I recently got the X700 256DDR Radeon and am very happy with it... but for $250 you should be able to get a 512 card if you shop carefully. Check out TigerDirect online.. they have some good sales...

well, it depends if you have AGP or PCI, but if i had $250, and a Motherboard to support it, i would buy
Diablotek Radeon X1950 GT / 512MB GDDR3 / AGP 8x / DVI / VGA / TV Out / Video Card
or
BFG GeForce 7600 GS OC / 512MB GDDR2 / AGP 8x / DVI / VGA / TV Out / Video Card
(the cards shown are AGP, though PCI though there are PCI equivilants)
