In the control panel there should be an icon for passwords and users. You can edit any user so no password is required, provided you have administrator privileges.
There may be some slight variations between different Windows operating systems, but this should work in either 98 or 2000.

If you have XP then it will ask you for a password. To add a profile so that it won't ask you for a name and password go into control panel, user accounts icon.
If you're not using XP then when you get to the password screen just press the Esc key, itll bypass it.

Click the Start button, click control panel, then click User Accounts, and click Change an Account.
Here you can select your user account and deactivate the password.....Just select remove my password, you will need to enter the password, then you should never see that screen again at startup....

Assuming, you are talking about the login screen on Windows XP, there is a simple way around this. I suggest getting Microsoft PowerToys. This little application lets you set Windows to automatically login and a lot more.
Get the "Tweak UI" tool.

After you log on. go to My computer, access the control panel, then user accounts and delete all users, except ADMINISTRATOR. disable the password for the administrator and you should not get another password prompt at start up.
