As the other answerers have said, it all rests on the shoulders of Roberto Luongo. If the Canucks make it anywhere it will be from riding on his back. They aren't a high scoring team, and will have to win close games thanks to great goaltending. If he's red hot, the Canucks can beat any team in the league, but if he hits one slump, they're toast.
I think too much is put into the fact that he hasn't played in the playoffs. Most goalies are pretty consistent between the regular season and the playoffs. The one exception, and really the reason for this analysis is Marty Turco. The guy is a monster in the regular season, and useless in the playoffs. I don't think it's a common thing, and Turco is the exception. The Luongo we see in the playoffs is the one we see in the season. He may even perform a little better. Luongo is an intense guy, and he loves to win. He does great things under pressure(Really does seem to play better with more shots.)
I think Luongo is good enough to at least pull Vancouver through round one, depending on opponent, but by round 2 I think it will be about it.

The match ups are starting to take shape for the first round. Vancouver will likely play San Jose, Dallas, Calgary or Minnesota. Most likely is Calgary or Dallas. Vancouver is likely to have home ice advantage. Neither has been scoring as well as Vancouver in the second half of the season. Both are known as defensive teams with strong goaltenders, and not high scorers. Neither has had as hot goal tending as Vancouver. Dallas has been playing pretty beat up lately. Vancouver should breeze through round one.
No one they play in first round is playing as hot as Vancouver right now. I say they take the first round, and the second.
They can go further, depending on who is left and how they look after round one. The Northwest is the toughest division in the league. The last 2 cups whatever team survived the Northwest went on to the cup final. Teams like Detroit who play St Louis and Chicago all year will get their standard wake up call once playoffs start and they play real teams. I predict Nashville and Detroit are first round casualties.

Given the West no longer has the dominant Dal-Det-Colo trio of the '90s and the fact the past two seasons have seen the upset specials, I'd place money on the Nux going all the way to the Final. Just look at the way they play hockey--unreal tending, strong D and goals some squeezed out of that non-descript forward group. Remind me a lot of Calgary '04.
I'd take either them or the Wild (if their road form improves) to emerge out of the West.

Anything can happen when you have good goaltending. You cant really be sure because nobody has ever seen Luongo in the playoffs, but he has the potential to carry that team pretty far. Just look at Anaheim in 03. The team play wasnt very good at all, but Giguer had one of the best performances Ive ever seen and carried them to the finals.

W/ Luongo they can make it all the way if he gets hot. If he doesnt, no way they make past the first round. They cant score their way out of trouble anymore.

Sure. Cloutier's not on goal anymore!!!!! They need to score more goals though if they make it to the later rounds. Luongo can't do it all.
