I'd recommend volunteering with each group to see which you prefer. Perhaps check out the special olympics and a volunteer program at a nursing home. If you'd like to pursue a degree that would allow you to work with both/either I'd recommend music therapy, recreational therapy, art therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, or physical therapy. All are excellent fields that pay well and would allow you to work with children with disabilities or elderly people. I have been teaching special ed. for years and I can honestly say I LOVE my job. Not many people really, really love their jobs and look forward to working each day. Good luck!

First of all . . . this is a great career for you to pick. Special needs children are the most rewarding thing you will ever work with in your life. I've done it for years. The first step I'm guessing your out of school, is every community (well almost) has a org. that works with these kids. Here it's called BOCES. Call your local chamber of commerce to find out what it's called in your area. From there call them and see if you can't volunteer. They have TONS of college classes for special needs, from visual assistants to signers and soooo many more, but start with the chamber and work your way up. Good luck, let me know if you need any other help . . I've got a huge amount of contacts for this. twpiston@yahoo.com

Many programs that serve children with special needs have assistants in the classroom. This is a great way to decide if this is something you really want to do. I am now a teacher for 3-5 yr olds with special needs and began my career as an assistant. Good luck!

it isn't the authorities's activity to protect them. President Madison, who wrote the structure, vetoed welfare and charity costs because the structure did not grant authorities the authority to spend the peoples' funds that way. The 10th modification says that something no longer especially allowed to the federal authorities contained in the structure became reserved for the states or the individuals. Welfare and charity are not reported contained in the structure. And it continues to be unconstitutional spending. this could be funded by technique of human being charitable donations or at state or decrease aspect of authorities.

Go to school and get a degree in special education. Then you are pretty much set on getting a job.

First thing you should do is arrange an informational interview with people that do this sort of work. A lot of people that think they want to do this don't know what they're getting themselves into. Schedule more than one.
