When I ask the question. I have the 'vote for rory' story in mind. It's my opinion the commissioner of the NHL should better represent the game itself, and treat the fans like shareholders. To be completely polite. Gary Bettman is a shrewd businessman. But in no way does he promote the prosperity of the game. Often he completely ignores the fans!

Dear NHL Owners,

We the fans demand the resignation of Mr. Gary Bettman as NHL commissioner.

Unlikely that will happen as Bettman is doing exactly what the owners want him doing. He is making money for them. Unfortunately hockey, more specifically the NHL is a business, and part of business is making a profit.

As far as the owners are concerned his is doing a wonderful job. He has added hockey in the Southern and Western US. Merchandise sales are up. Ticket sales are up in some markets. The minor league teams are thriving.

I've always believed that Bettman had the best intentions for the league and fans. However things do not always play out as planned. I also recall that things were not any better under Ziegler's rule.

I have accepted that hockey is a regional sport; more so in a city which hosts a team.

just as jujubah said Bettman is doing what hes told by the owners of the teams the rules hes trying to put in him self are wrong and that's whats hurting this game so much. just before Bettmen joined the NHL as Commish the NHL had higher ratings then the NBA and was gaining on MLB as the MLB was losing many fans throughout the early 90's. they complained the game is to long well why put in the shootout it makes it even longer they should just get rid of the stupid shootout cause this is a team sport and give 3 pts to the winning teams and bring back the ties on a 10 minutes overtime like back in the day but make it 4 on 4 rather then 5 on 5. cause you will want to fight for the 3 points cause it will make a big deference in the final standings.

And the reason why ticket prices are so high in the NHL is cause teams like the Ducks, Preds, Sharks, Panthers, Bluejackets, Islanders, Canes don't sell out there games so the owners have to find away to make money.

Everyone around here loves to blame all the league's problems on Bettman. Unfortunately the reality of the situation is that it was the stupid owners who gave career minor leaguers multi-million dollar contracts, these "superstars" didn't help the team, then the same owners cried like little children to Bettman they were losing money!!!!!!

Then all Bettman did was do exactly what these owners wanted, so how in the world do you think sending a petition to these same owners is going to help????

Not sure we could start a coup but the owners could get rid of him. I'm sure they have the power to get him out if they all voted to. On the other hand I think his job is safe because the Salary Cap. I think by breaking the Union he won his job for at least 2 or 3 more years(I think that getting the cap gets him at least 5 years)
