typical exaggeration of the American language. Love in itself, is supposed to be the highest degree. But our over-use of the word caused phrases like "lots of love" and "I love you very much."

One would have to know your boyfriend ,as you do, to read his facial expressions. That is the best way ,in person, to see him when he says "lots of love". But if he says "I love you" in person , you'll know it's the real thing. My sister closes her letters with "lots of love", so that is kind of a standard closing.

Depends. How do you like to be treated? If the people around you pets you and try to joke around with you, and that happens to be some things that you like to be treated, then that's love. When it gets to family love, well... I'd have to say that parents giving you lots of opportunities to succeed in your future (i.e education), and offers you plenty of food, then that's one type of love, too.
If you like to be treated like pig by your boyfriend/girlfriend/martian, and if you're a masochist, then that's one type of ..... you know what, I don't know.

It could be someone's wife or girlfriend. He calls her Love, and it just happens that she's on the big side too. So, there is 'lots of Love'.

Yes, same as I love you lots.
But generally lots of love is used as a farewell and is used liberally, so beware he may not be in love with you!
