You will need a marine certificate to work with BC Ferries. They receive so many applicants that they only want the best qualified. I am assuming you want to at least be a deckhand. B.C.I.T. has a marine institute in North Vancouver:

It is very hard to get a job with B.C. Ferries

Most who are employed there got it through knowing someone directly/indirectly

As with most Government employers must have a min. of grade 12 and 100 qualifications

I think you need to know how to swim. Other than that, not too much unless you want to drive the boat.
