I have had some limited success with extending the internal antenna into a wired array using cordless phone transcievers. The effort was not worth the work involved though. Ultamately I chose to use a extended ethernet crossover cable and wired hubs to centrally locate the wireless router in a central location in the house utilizing my attic space for cable routing.

A couple different methods. One would be to purchase Hi-gain wifi antennas for your router and PC, you can also buy a range extender.
Sorry Jeff but you CAN boost it! All you need is 200 dollars worth of wifi bi-linear amplifier! I have made a 5 mile connection so far with one!

you can't boost it, certain types of routers (i.e. wireless g, b, n) broadcast in different levels of frequencies. The wireless-N is the best at this point and time. If you are wanting to connect further away, may I suggest a Wireless access point
Here Check these out

Upgrade the antenna. Something like whats in the link, also make sure you have security enabled on your router. By increasing the signal, you increase the chance for others to use your connection if its not secured......

depending on the type of router you can put on a different operating system. i used dd-wrt instead of the linksys operating system and the range is a little farther when at default and it can be increased a little in the program on the router. it is also much more reliable. http://www.dd-wrt.com
