Patrick (Padraig) was a rich man's son but was captured in a battle and taken to Ireland as a slave. He was held many years but escaped back to Brittany. He became a priest and had a heart to bring Christianity to those who had enslaved him so he went back to Ireland. They were over run with snakes and he drove them all into the sea where they died. There are also stories about him slaying a terrible dragon who lived in a deep cave and only came out to eat someone. He slew it with a shepard's crook so he is always depicted with one. The Irish were not able to understand his religious teachings so he picked the 3 leaved shamrock and taught the trinity with the leaves being the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. They are three parts of a whole and they embraced that and all converted. Now, why we drink green beer and eat corned beef and cabbage is the real mystery here. The trinity I get but the rest of it is very strange. Well, anyway, happy St Paddy's to ya!

Don't forget *smile*...it's only if you're NOT wearing green you get pinched.

And if you find that answer, pass it on...I don't know either!
