"Most doctors will call in a prescription for you if you just tell the answering service that you have a bladder infection."

Someone said this in another UTI thread, Is this true? I know 100% that I have a UTI ( I get them about once a year) But I cant afford to pee in a cup and have them tell me what I already know for $200 just to get the meds I need.

thanks :)

You can always go to your Health Department and they can give you medicine for it for free. I had to do it once. Or you can try taking Golden Seal. It's an herbal pill you can buy anywhere, even at Walmart. It works like a natural antibiotic. I have taken it before for UTIs and it cleared them up fast. Just remember if it doesn't help within a few days to get to a doctor or the infection can spread to other parts of your body. Taking at least 1000mg of Vitamin C will also make your urine acidic so bacteria cannot grow in it.

No, it is not true that most drs will call in a script of an antibiotic for you if you just tell the answering service that you have a bladder infection. You will get a call back saying that they want you to come in and get checked. If they were to give you a script without the exam and you have a serious allergic reaction to the medicine the dr could get in to trouble for not following proper procedure.

Because of your issues with money pls check your city's health dept to see if they offer a free clinic so that you can get this checked. If not, check to see if there's a Medical School close to you. The reason for checking to see if it is a UTI is because it may not be and could be something more serious like a kidney infection.

Just call the doctor's office. Ask to leave a message for the nurse or doctor. Most understand when financial problems don't allow a patient to come in. Just leave detailed description of exactly what you feel. If they say they can't call in a script, try to push oral fluids, cranberry juice and an over the counter UTI pain reliver (they exist).
