There should be ethics in journalism but they're sadly lacking. Many journalists feel it is their job to "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable," never stopping to question whether the afflicted are always deserving of comfort (hence those stories defending murderers and rapists you might read) or if the comfortable are de facto guilty of some crime (though they never seem to go after very, very comfortable people like Jane Fonda, John Edwards or other zillionaires.

Many journalists also think they should be "speaking truth to power," no matter the circumstances. So today you have cases where military secrets are printed on the front pages of our daily newspapers during a time of war.

Essentially, the majority of journalists are progressive liberals, atheists and pseudo-cynics who were raised in middle- and upper-middle class homes who then went to liberal universities and have never held a real job in their lives.

And I know because I worked alongside them for a couple of decades.

you are not talking about journalists. you are talking about a bunch of ***** on their soap-boxes. true journalism is dead. it was killed in a corporate takeover. now the term journalism is reserved for the likes of "To Catch a Predator" and Entertainment Tonight
