How soon can I test? Well, first you gotta know how the test works. Briefly: the home pregnancy test (HPT) works by detecting a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG.) When an egg is fertilized, it takes about 6 to 12 days to implant in the uterus, and then it begins to secrete hCG. It takes another day or two for enough hCG to build up and make its way into your pee. So, generally speaking, the earliest you can expect a positive HPT is 8 days past ovulation ("DPO") and the latest would be about 16 DPO. It is possible to get a positive test earlier or later, but not as common. In my experience, if you use a sensitive "early" test (anything that detects 25 mIU/mL of hCG or less) you can test around 12-14 DPO and feel reasonably secure with your results (the later you test, the more secure you can feel in its accuracy.)

If you do not chart or monitor your fertility in any way, and you think you may have conceived, you should wait 19 days (or longer) after having sex to test. Why 19?! Sperm can live approximately 5 days in the proper environment; if the sperm managed to live until you popped an egg, the actual conception could have taken place several days after the sex act that got the sperm there. To make sure you're not testing too early, assume the sperm had very long lives (5 days is considered a very long sperm life) and that conception occurred then. Then allow 14 days for the embryo to implant and develop enough hCG to show up on a pregnancy test (96% of pregnant women will test positive by then.)

The home pregnancy test are fairly accurate, you could also go to Planned Parenthood for a test or help. If you want to continue being sexually active, use a condom. There is also female spermicide you can buy. If you see a doctor you can get on birthcontrol, or have a IUD.And intercourse is not a requirement for a pleasurable time. You could look into different "techniques". Good luck and don't stress yourself.

You can take a test around your missed peroid (it won't do much right now). If you are sexually active until then of course you will want to use a condom although I am not sure if you want to use spermacide or lubed condoms. In the first month of pregnancy it is pretty forgiving when it comes to things you shouldn't do. Like drinking and smoking, if you do this before you find out then you are probably okay as long as you stop once you find out.

The over the counter preg tests are so advanced these days, you can tell right away. If you do not have faith in condoms, consider an alternative method like an IUD. They aren't your mom's IUD anymore either. I use Mirena and I have not had any problems at all. They last for ten years and can be removed in minutes! As for your last question, do not use hormones if you think you might be pregnant. Continue to use a condom if you are not in a monogomous relationship.

Even if your boyfriend (husband?) did have super sperm that could swim through unbroken latex and you were for some reason pregnant, you wouldn't know by the 18th by taking a reg pregnancy test. If I'm correct, which I very well may not be, you'd have to wait till next period because it was only 2 weeks to this one? Bah. That part confuses me.

Yea, you are probably pregnant. So it's time to start planning how you are going to care for a child in your life. Your choices are to marry the father and have the child within a committed relationship and the child is born in wedlock. Or, you can continue to play house with your boyfriend and wind up rearing the child on your own because most guys who don't marry the mother of their child usually takes off to Tahiti! It's your choice, but for your child's sake - do the proper thing!

Its too late now to do anything about it..but if you used a condom and it stayed intact I wouldn't be so worried about it. Just wait...no need to jump to conclusions and freak yourself out about it. It is unneeded stress.

The only way to never have this fear again is to never have sex until you are ready for children.

don't be worried if you used one. as long as it didn't leak from the side or anything.
next time just use two to be sure AND make sure the inner one has room for his sperm. it it doesnt it has a high chance of popping if he produced a lot
