Get yourself a PDA, so you can remind yourself.
Do you forget other people's birthdays, too? Family? Friends?
If you only forget her birthday, maybe there is a deeper reason, which you should try and discuss openly.

Well, she put you on the spot and is giving it way more importance than necessary. Girls think that remembering certain dates is a sign of caring which is BS. It's not just guys that don't remember dates well. I, being a female, am the same way. Don't beat yourself up about it and if she gives you a hard time ask her if she would rather you remember her birth date and be an asshole, or be a nice guy who is a bit forgetful?

You acquire new knowledge every single minute. There is no mystery in forgetting some important facts. Haven't you ever forgotten how a problem is solved in a math exam? It's completely similar. If you want to fix your problem of forgetting facts about your girlfriend (i.e. when she goes to her classes, where she lives, how many siblings she has), then keep a little notepad in your pocket, and jot down every single facts about your gf. Good luck, man.
By the way, I had the same exact problem with my friends. : P Except they didn't really mind.

Do you treat her with respect in every other area of your relationship? If so, then get over it. I have been married for a while and I prefer that my husband treats me well and lovingly on the days that don't count as opposed to the "big" ones--Valentine's, b-days, x-mas.
sometimes life is hectic and things are forgotten.
Have a very merry un-birthday and do it right when the time is right and you can do it right.
If she doesn't understand, she's not worth it.

I think this is a guy thing. Call her parents and ask them and clearly mark your calendar from now on. If you missed it, remind her how busy you've been and make it up to her with a dinner or gift.

Because it's one of the most important dates for HER. Not you.
Plus, if you've never celebrated it with her, it'll be a lot harder to remember - it's just a random date unless you have a memory associated with it.

Because subconsciously you feel that she's too much of a distraction and getting in the way, so this is your way of getting her to dump you so that you can get on with more important pursuits.

The male brain isn't built to handle these things. That's why God invented calenders and PDA's.
