Depends on the game.
Most PS2 games these days will probably require a broadband connection. It should say so on the box. (If it says "Broadband Only" then it won't work with a dial-up connection.)
I've played Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 online through a dial-up connection (quite a few years ago) and it actually played alright. Not sure if that game can still be played online or not though, or if anyone still plays it.
Getting a PS2 online with out broadband is another thing though. The original network adapter (for the regular PS2) came with a modem in it. I'm not sure if the slim PS2 has the modem or not. Though it is possible to share a dial-up internet connection from a computer to a PS2 using ethernet ports and an ethernet crossover cable. I've done it. Broadband opens up a lot more possibilities though.

If you have the old PS2 and the network adapter, then you can use dial-up for online play because on the back of the network adapter, there are 2 plugs, one for ethernet and one for dial-up.
I don't have a slim PS2, so I don't know if you can play online using dial-up, but my guess is that you can. Of course, it will depend on the game because it's the game's company that sets up the online network, so if the game wants it to be broadband only, then you can only play with a broadband hook-up.

No. There is only a Network adapter available for the PS2.
You could try to connect ht PS2 with your PC through a Crossover cable, and your PC then dials into the Internet. So technically it is possible. However, the games need to move game data very quick, so a dial up connection is normally not possible.
So all in all: To really enjoy online play, you most definitely need a broadband connection.

No it may not. PS2 Requires a minimum bandwidth connection.
Besides it's not worth the money and time to use a dial up. Too slow and waste of time. Wouldn't be able to play any of the games. Sorry!
