Ok, I'm 37 weeks pregnant, effaced to 60% and 2.5 cm dilated, have been having strong contractions by monitor(can't feel them myself), my baby measures 2 weeks behind, and now my doctor says she wants to induce me a week early if nothing happens before the 20th of this month. Due the 28th. I know that measuring small isn't always bad, but I was just wondering how often this happens, I would have thought she would have wanted to stop the contractions. I know if it wasn't safe the doctor wouldn't do it, but still wondering why she would induce a week early.

Ok, by measuring small I mean I am 37 weeks pregnant, and my fundus height is at 35 weeks, meaning I'm measuring 2 weeks behind what I should. Sorry didn't elaborate enough.

You could be measuring small because bubs has dropped into your pelvis! Don't panic my baby always measured small but it was because he was sitting low. They only use that measuring system as a guide... 2cm either side is nothing to worry about! The most my bub measured at was 35cm and that was at 38 weeks. He was induced two weeks early and weighed 6lb5oz so a nice size really!
Just remember that anything after 37 weeks is classed as to term!

First of all, if you are measuring smaller, your doctor should do an ultrasound to determine the size of the baby....measuring smaller in fundal height is not a good indication as you can measure -2 or +2 cm. If I were you, I would ask your doctor why she wants to induce early, if you are measuring small...to me, I would think they would want you to go to your due date if you were measuring smaller...I will be induced a week before my due date if I haven't had her by then, but my doctor is doing it based on the fact that I am a petite girl and she doesn't want me having a large baby. Also, I am 37w and have been 3cm 70% effaced for 3 weeks........and have been having contractions but they are not regular.....you are past the 36 week mark, so at this point in time, they usually do not stop labor if you start having contractions.

Your body contracting is normal and why stop that if it is happening so close to the date. It can be hard on the baby and you to continue to stop contractions for two weeks just so you can deliver closer to the date they originally gave you. Not all the time are they right about that date and I wouldn't worry about it. Small how? Length? Weight? Ask your Dr. what they mean by small. You have a right to ask questions! It is your body and your babies health you are concerned about. Get a second opinion if you don't trust them.

you said you had measured small.. no its not bad but the doc probably feels as though this is the farthest the baby will grow so we are going to go ahead and take the baby early cause there is no point to keep being pregnant when the baby isnt growing and your not growing so its nothing to worry about and i am sure your doc had a good reason why

Sometimes having contractions for a long period of time can be bad for the baby. It affects the blood supply from the placenta in some way.

he wants to induce you as your placenta is not feeding the baby enough now,and if this is the case it will start breaking up and then the emergency starts
