Ray Allen has been an All-Star caliber player for a long time. He has one of the smoothest jumpers in the game, probably text book form. He produces night in and night out, and is a good character guy too. He is known mainly as a scorer, but he has a solid all around game. I think his defense is underrated, although he is not a shutdown defender by any means.

The reason why he isn't noticed as much is that so many "superstar" players play his position, shooting guard. He is not as flashy or as vocal as these other players (Kobe, TMac, DWade, Vince Carter, etc). There are also many other quality shooting guards out there (Michael Redd, Paul Pierce, Joe Johnson, Jason Richardson, Brandon Roy, Larry Hughes, Manu Ginobili, Josh Howard, etc). It's just a very saturated position in the NBA.

Take the All-Star game selections. Except for maybe Tony Parker, who on the West Squad would you have taken out to get Ray Allen in?

Ray Allen also plays for the Sonics, who haven't been very good, while the others play for playoff contenders. So he isn't talked about late into the season, so while he's very good, he doesn't get extra points for being clutch in the playoffs. Another reason he's not rated too highly is that he can't "carry" a team to the playoffs. Many players, fair or not, are rated on how many playoff appearances they have.

Let's face it, If he were still in the Eastern Conference, we'd be talking about him more. He always made the playoffs when he played for the Milwaukee Bucks, and he was much more well known then. He was even in a movie then. Now, he's just another quality shooting guard in the Western Conference.

I believe you. Allen has definitely been underrated the past couple of seasons. I think it's because they aren't winning. They have to win in order to make some noise. Allen has been under the radar ever since they fell to the Spurs in 2005. I just don't think it's fair for Allen to take all the blame. He is doing more than what he should be. Even though, they are not winning. You see, Allen is not the problem, as his averages will attest, it's the chemistry of his team. His team is a young team and not all that talented.
I think Ray Allen deserves credit for even winning 40% of their games. Without him, I think Seattle would be more like 14-47. Give Ray Allen some props. Plus, he has the sweetest jump shot in NBA history.

Allan is definitely underrated and he probably is the best shooter in the game right now (Although Jason Kapono is a great shooter, with less of an overall skill level). Allan can drive it in well and play alright, but not great, defense. He's underrated because of the way the league markets players today. By NBA standards he's just too boring. He doesn't say funny or offensive things, like Shaq. He doesn't get into trouble like 'Melo. He doesn't win Championships like D.Wade. He doesn't have the flashy game like Lebron, and he doesn't have the size and great team like Dirk. So basically he's just not marketable.

Playing for two bad small market teams does not affect his public visibity because he still has 42 games on the other teams homecourts. He is relatively unknown to a lot of people because he is a quiet person. He isn't the one out there trying to get headlines and stating his opinion on everything under the sun. And yes, he's the best damn shooter/scorer in the league right now along with Koby. They have killer instincts when it comes to scoring on someone and Ray's shot is so sexy. If I could shoot like someone it would be him. Carmelo, Wade, Iverson, James, get more points but get them on layups and dunks. Allen is pure shooter.

I think he is the best shooter in the game. He is very underrated, because he plays in Seattle. Not many Seattle games are shown on national tv. Also, his game isn't about flashiness (like LeBron or Wade). He mostly shoots, but can drive, and doesn't act out.

yup, ray allen is an underrated to this day..he dont have the same followings like kobe, vince and the other superstars in the league but considering his stats, he is second in all time in three pointers made behind reggie miller..one of the best shooter the league ever produced with 1902 3-pointers made. he is one of the best, if not the best shooter in the league..better than kobe, vince, lebron and other big names.

Don't think he's underrated, just isn't flashy. But he's probably the best shooter in the game.

He is a great shooter but he always has been on a bad team, so that's why he is considered underrated.
