If America is so hell bent on maintaining firearms "for protection" when are the incompetant and useless parents that allow their children easy access to the firearms they own ever going to be held as legally responsible for these acts as the minors who are the perpetrators.

Surely if a parent is not responsible for a weapon whose only purpose is to cause death then the parents have to be held as responsible as if they pulled the trigger themselves.

It would seem the constitution (even before it was watered down by the Patriot Bill) seemed to give everyone certain rights but doesnt mention a lot about responsibility!

It seem sonly a couple of you get it. this is about PARENTS being made sto stand up and be accountable.

If a parent wants to hold his rights to bear armsthen they also have to be responsible and keep the guns out of reach of minors, if they fail to do this they are negligent and culpable for the crimes committed by their children who acce3ss these unsecured weapons.

Guns just going bang by themselves,!!!!!

and that from an experienced law officer,.no wonder there are so many stupi gun deaths in the US.

I'm so sick of hearing the bs about guns. Whens the last time a gun picked itself up and shot somebody? And when did guns become the only thing that can kill people? Should we ban all axes and knives and sharp needles? Maybe we should ban anything that could be used to make a bomb as well. Don't you get it? We live in a free country and guns are part of that freedom. Car crashes kill probably a thousand times as much as guns but nobody runs around saying lets get rid of them. Its unreal to me that you would put down the constitution that this country was built on. You must think your so much smarter than our forefathers. If you don't like the very foundation of this country you should find another one to live in.

Point taken and well put! You are coming across very clear on this end, and I wholeheartedly agree with you 100% without a doubt.

I also believe that other gun owners would say the same, being that gun safety and storage is a big item in purchasing and maintaining a firearm(s) in today's society.

Although there is "not one law" that can deter any crime and its existence, there can also be ways to conform a attitude towards an issue more constructively and with minimal success.

Actually i have an interesting true story.. When i was 20 years old, living in las vegas many of my co-workers decided to get guns after having been robbed. I had already been thinking about it for self defense.

I went to the store to get a pistol one day after id saved up, i then learned i could not buy one until i was 21 (i thought it was 18). Two months later while i was walking to 7/11 four guys got out of their car after telling me to get in. And beat me and left me for dead. I woke up bleeding from the head and eye with internal bleeding in the lungs, broken ribs, fractured facial bones, and bruised organs.

I can say this, if i had had a gun those 4 criminals would be off the street not hurting anyone again. The hospital called the police, who told me that its been happening allot and they suspect its the same people.

Gun control helps criminals. Criminals do not care if their gun is legal. A criminal isnt gonna have one legally anyway in the vast majority of instances... "oh gee my guns illegal i guess i shouldnt murder this rape victim" common!

I am a victim of gun control not of guns. Tell your anti-gun story to someone whos never been a victim maybe they will buy it.

btw, what school shooting are you talking about?

Some of the most corrupt and authoratarian coutries also have terriost, leftests and such running around with automatic weapons. The average people aren't suppose to have them.
If attackers enter a home with a weapon they usually are willing to use it and don't care what the gun (weapon) laws are.If the government takes away a right they don't like to give them back.

Yup, blame the gun, that's all ways the easy out.

Never mind the parent's lack of parenting, or that punishment and GOD have been taken out of the schools. Or the social decline in values.

yup, firearms are the easy out. that cant talk back and all do what there operator orders them to. OH but then they always go off by them selves to. HUH.........

it's all those violent movies....o wait...no it's the violent music.....no....I think its the violent video games. All awesome scapegoats.
me? I think just bad parenting, parents failing to see that there is something wrong with their child/children. Kids do not naturally close themselves off from the world hiding their pain, no one caring does that.
guns maybe be an issue but there is definitely something wrong in the first place for a child to take a gun and do harm.

These kids need to be shown "scared straight" so they can evaluate what the rest of their life will be like in a horrible prison cell.

At least they are starting to realize that bullies cause a lot of problem and they don't ignore it anymore.

About the gangs, I think there will always be gangs, but it's up to the lazy school administrators to kick out kids that exibit gang behavior.

I propose that we also crack down on pencil, ink pen and keyboard manufacturers, for contributing to bad grammar and unsavory literature.

The Constitution doesn't give anyone rights. It acknowledges rights that every person is born with.
