I won't be much help; we didn't really bother with a nursery after not using the crib much with baby #1, and not at all with babies #2-6. Babies slept in the bed between hubby and I, nursed when they were hungry, and everyone got some sleep that way. How I was going to decorate a nursery was the furthest thing from my mind when I was pregnant! I'm sure my babies preferred being next to Mom to being alone with Classic Pooh or whatever. :)

Hello,
Nurseries are difficult, the penguin idea is adorable. Our son's room is a jungle, litterally. I had collected realistic looking stuffed animals for several years and just kept them clean. We chose a convertible bed so that I wouldn't have to try to match the wood on the dresser and floor again. Plus my father hand painted a mural of a jungle on the large wall. Mountains, river, trees and bamboo! The other walls are a bit on the unorthodox side. The top is a sky blue with white clouds(painted by my aunt), and the chair rail used to divide the colors is set at a 40/60 split. The bottom color is a khaki green. I used a long piece of bamboo for a curtain rod, with khaki curtains. Then I purchased a fish net and some leafy silk foliage and made a "tree perch" where I put some of the more unique animals and hung some monkeys from the underside(as though they were climbing it). Have fun with it and don't forget to fill it with love!

Well since I had 2 other boys already, and knew my last one was a boy, we did the room in an all sports theme,(from wall paper boarder, to light switches, to bedding) only because with the other 2, I learned that the baby stage only lasts for a short short period of time, and that they are not in their rooms much at an early age,so for the last one we did the room so it would be age appropriate for a long time. He is now almost three and loves loves loves baseball and football, so we are really glad we picked that theme. I dont have to change a thing for a long time.

Congrats! It is sooo much fun to decorate the nursery. Isn't it?
We didn't find out the sex either, but still wanted to be creative. We did a jungle theme. The room is full of green, artificial and real plants, one corner is fish and sea, the other is jungle animals, one of the walls is decorated with pictures of palm trees and birdies, on the other wall there are bamboo and green hanging plant decorations, plus little pictures in bamboo frames of us and the baby. Above the changing table we hung colorful fish decorations - just a few cents in the party store and a sun with sunglasses hangs from the ceiling. It sounds like a lot, but it turned out beautiful and fun looking. It's our happiest room in the whole house. Our son loves it and slept through the night the first time he used it. :)

I think that you should do what best fits you. If you do the norm then all it is, is a cookie cutter. Make it your own. My husband and I did a beach theme. We did it because we're convinced our child was conceived on our beach vacation. We did not get the crib set until we knew the sex. The room and furniture is suited for either sex and then after we found out the sex we ordered the crib set pink for our little girl. We had a blue one from another web site if it was a boy.
Good Luck to you.

I like the penguins and the snug bug one but we went with winnie the pooh since its good for both sexes and the colors are mild so repeated washing does not show so fast, we are now done with baby number two and our nursery set (and ect) still looks nice and it will be ready for number 3.
as well finance you are now or you think you might be later, each child still costs alot of money its good to plan ahead.

For my first child a boy 6 yrs ago we did an underwater theme, the room had one bright blue wall which we wade wooden fish and other sea animals and stuck them on the wall, the other walls were white. He still has the same theme in his bedroom because he still likes it and we moving soon anyway. For my second child a girl 3 years ago we did a farmyard theme and we made wooden cut out pigs, cows, horses etc. she still loves that room. For my 6 month old twins we have not done a theme for their room because we are moving next month so we thought it would be easier to not do it till we are in the new house. We are not going to do a theme for their nursery its going to be painted bright blue on one wall and purple on another, the other 2 walls are going to be white, with wooden cut outs of their names on the walls. Dylan will be on the blue wall in red and Anna will be done in pink on the purple wall.

Penguins are a really cute idea! Our nursery is decorated with a teddy bear theme because throughout or 6 year relationship my husband has bought me countless teddy bears and it just seemed like a great way to display them (plus it was cheap because we didn't have to buy many decorations- just shelves!)

For my daughter who is now 3 years old - her theme has always been Moons & Stars. I plan to change her theme the next time we move to flowers/butterflies/dragonflies/ladybugs - stuff like that... something more feminine.
For my son who is now 7 months we have done a jungle/wild animal theme (giraffes, elephants, lions, monkeys, crocodiles, etc.). It's cute but I'm getting tired of it whereas I still am not tired of my daughters moons & stars room as it is now, even after 3 years with the same theme! :)
I agree penguins is very original and sounds cute.... it sounds like you might have trouble finding stuff but I wish you luck! :)
