Is it expensive, what things would you want to take with you, what things would you want to look out for, tell me the good and the bad so i can be prepared.

The standard of living is much different and the food is a total 180 from the US. The thing to be most prepared for will be the culture shock. Food; Watch out for the fertilized duck eggs. They sell 17 day old unhatched, steamed ducks still in the shell. They say the beak is the best part.. yuk.
Stay away from the "sh1t river". It's not uncommon to find dead and aborted human babies floating down stream. Never appear as if you have money.. dress like the natives do and you'll be less of a target from the criminal element. Don't let this stuff scare you however, people are people no matter where you go. Given enough time, you'll begin to see more similarities that differences.

As long as you got dollars on your pocket. Make sure that you always have your slippers, shorts....well, if you want to live permanently , you should have a permanent house to live in, the one not for rent but a house of your own. Cost of living in the Philippines is not that high.
