Just an idle question:

In the day or so leading up to labour, does the baby move more, less, or are the movements much the same as usual?

I'm only 34.5wks pregnant so i'm not there yet - i was just curious.

Thanks

Generally in the lead up to labour you'll find your baby's movements will become less vigorous - they will not stop completely, but there will probably not be as much kicking and punching going on, the movements will be smoother. There isn't a lot of room in there right at the end, and babies will also tend to settle into a "head down" position and adopt the sleep/wake patterns of a newborn.

As said, your baby will not stop moving altogether though - if you are unable to feel your baby moving at any time for 12 hours straight, then contact your caregiver for further advice.

Firstly, congratulations on your first baby. How exciting!

With the single child, he seemed to move about the same, perhaps a little less. With the twins there was less movement. I don't think there was much room left by the time they were born.

i think its different for all pregnancies, I just had the normal movement near the end but I can understand the panic that some women feel when they don't feel the baby's movement. interesting is that I once read that you'll know when your about to expect is when you go into a cleaning frenzy, maybe your body telling your subconscious that your about ready and to prepare, I paid no attention to that, thought maybe a myth but just days before the birth of my daughter, I did go into a cleaning frenzy..not realizing because I wasn't sure exactly when the due date was...could of been anywhere with in a month, amazing.
