This may be asking much, but can somebody try to explain the very confusing plot to me? A james bond movie obviously is centered around the adrenaline-filled action scenes butstill. Who was Mathis? Why did the the guy he was playing poker with need to pay money, and who was mr white?

Mathis is Bond's contact in Montenegro.

Le Chiffre bankrolls terrorists, but he's greedy, so he gambles with the money he's supposed to safeguard and puts it into the stock market so he can get more money for himself than the usual fees. In "Casino," Le Chiffre makes a special investment in which he bets that the Skyfleet company, which has built the largest airliner in the world, will see its stock drop. If that stock drops, Le Chiffre gets filthy rich.

Bond kills the first bomber assigned to blow up the airliner. This was the black guy Bond chases in Madagascar through the construction site. After killing the bomber, Bond takes the guy's backpack, which includes the guy's cell phone. The cell phone contains the name of the bombing operation, "Ellipsis."

Bond discovers that a man in the Bahamas with ties to terrorists is involved. This is Dimitrios, the guy whom Bond beats in poker at the hotel and gets the Aston Martin from.

Le Chiffre had hired Dimitrios to hire the bomber to blow up the plane. With the first bomber dead, Dimitrios hires a second bomber. This is the guy who dresses up as a security guard and Bond chases through the Miami airport.

With Le Chiffre's plan to get rich off the destruction of the Skyfleet plane thwarted, Le Chiffre is now short on cash. He needs to get the money back, so he sets up a poker tournament in Montenegro. He's good at calculating odds, so he thinks he can win the tournament easily.

Unfortunately for Le Chiffre, the African terrorists we saw at the beginning of the film find that they can't withdraw any of their money. They track Le Chiffre to Montenegro and threaten Le Chiffre.

Bond wins the tournament, of course. M put him in the tournament because she wanted Bond to wipe Le Chiffre out and then offer Le Chiffre amnesty if Le Chiffre would give the British information on the terrorist organizations he funded.

With his money gone and terrorists soon to be on his heels, Le Chiffre captures Vesper to lure Bond into a trap. Le Chiffre wants to steal the money from Bond. While Le Chiffre's men gather Bond from the wreckage, Le Chiffre tells Bond that Mathis was really working for him, not Bond.

But Mr. White shows up. Mr. White is the middle man between the African terrorists and Le Chiffre. His head is going to be on the chopping block if he doesn't please his clients, who have no money because of Le Chiffre's lust for gambling.

There's a twist, though. Vesper's boyfriend has been kidnapped by Mr. White's organization. After White kills Le Chiffre during Le Chiffre's torture session of Bond, he spares Vesper and Bond because Vesper promises to steal Bond's winnings before Bond can transfer them to the British Treasury. Vesper hopes that by appeasing White, White will let her boyfriend go.

In Venice, White and his goons show up and contact Vesper for the money drop. But Bond has discovered that Vesper withdrew the money, so he chases her through the city.

Vesper refuses Bond's attempt to rescue her from the elevator as the building collapses because she had fallen in love with Bond and can't stand the guilt of double-crossing him and the British Treasury. She also either realizes that her boyfriend is dead or that he was in cahoots with White. (We may find out in the next Bond film, as it will be connected to "Casino").

Vesper knew she wasn't going to live, so she left White's name and number on her cell phone for Bond to discover. Bond uses that information to track White down at White's estate. That's when the movie ends.

We don't know whether Bond kills White.
