One turtle has given the other small but noticeable injuries. I stayed watching them and I think I figured out what was going on. The attacking turtle seems to be going for the very translucent shedding skin from the other turtle, and i think this is why he is biting him. What do you think?

yes male turtle are very teritorial and will attack eachother your dominate turtle will kill the other one if you dont seperate them immediately. Do not place turtle who do not know eachother for a extended period of time together. You always buy two turltes at same time so they will know eachother.
What we did is sexed first turtle who happened to be male we went out a bought him a girlfriend and they did fine two males who dont know one another is bad business, Im sorry soemone gave you bad info.

RES are known to be a bit on the aggressive side, but any turtles that live together can become enemies.

The best way to keep them living in harmony is to give them LOTS of space. 10 gallons of water for each INCH of turtle should be the absolute minimum and more space is better. Food should also be plentiful. If your turtles have lots of space and still "argue", try taking them out of the aquarium, rearranging everything, then putting them back in. This can confuse them into thinking they're not in their territory, so they don't defend it.

If those things don't work, you probably have to put them in separate tanks. If you can't do that right away, get an aquarium divider as a short term solution. If you have a large aquarium, go to home depot and buy egg crate lighting material. It costs about 10 dollars and makes a good safe divider. Good Luck!

depends on the lendth of time they have been together, i have seen some turtles do some really nasty injuries to others, and some live fine together, but if it is truely attacking the other i would definately seperate them

Yes, they should be separated before the get seriously hurt. Turtles are very territorial and will fight constantly. And the weaker turtle will always be stressed which could kill him.

Aggression between two male Red-ears is pretty common. You either need to seperate them or invest in a REALLY big tank.

The turtle that dies would be the weak one.
