will any usb 2.0 external hard drive work on my macbook??

i'm actually running osx from my external hard drive right now! has usb and firewire capabilities...disk utility can format most (if not any) hard drive to make it compatible /applications/utilities/diskutility
make sure the hard drive is read by the macbook first...additional help is available at http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa click on macbook

No only the ones that say mac compatible.
