I used to never want to see or "feel" their presence either, but one day it just happened and I "feel" presences more now than I ever used to "think" I did. You know how you feel all the little hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and you think to yourself "there's nothing there, it's just a cold chill" or something like that, that's why I said "think".
A couple weeks ago someone asked on Answers " Have you ever experienced the paranormal phenomena or ghosts?"
I think I was the only one who had a true to life experience, here's what I wrote:
"Let me just clarify, I am not crazy, delusional or have ever been in a psych ward! I have experienced a ghost or at least a spirit. I did not see it, only felt the presence. I was at a friend's house, yes it was a party, but not I did not partake, and I had to go to work early the next morning, so I asked for a quiet room where I could sleep. It was a bi-level house with an upstairs, I slept upstairs far away from party activity, there was an adjoining bathroom with an entrance to the bedroom opposite the side of the bed I was sleeping on. About 5-10 minutes after I got settled in I heard what I thought was someone walking through the bathroom into the bedroom(wood floors), I assumed someone was trying to scare me, so I said outloud "Come on guys, I'm trying to sleep, knock it off" and noone answered, nor did they walk out of the room, nor did I see anyone. So I continued to lay there and "felt" something walk around the bed to the side I was on and felt like something was directly in my face breathing(yes I know the dead don't breathe), talk about goosebumps and cold chills to the point where I couldn't move or speak, nor did I want to! So I covered my head with the sheets and tried to pretend that "it" wasn't there, even though I knew it was right in my face. I guess you could say I took the cowards way out, I wasn't ready for something like that, but looking back now, some 10 years later I wish I would've just said, What do you want, who are you, go away, something!!! The next day I woke up, went to work and called my friend from work(still sleeping when I left), I asked him if the room/house was haunted. He said it used to be his parents bedroom til they started sleeping downstairs and in turn asked me how I liked it, they even had a name for "him"! He knew what was up, what a jerk for letting me sleep in there! I went to the house many times after that, but never stepped foot upstairs ever again."
We live in a dimensional world where more things are going on than you and I are aware of, some are just better tuned into it. I try to think about it vice-versa, maybe "they" aren't so aware of us either and are just "living" their lives too.
My advice to you, don't be scared. I think everyone carries in the back of their mind the thought of ghosts or spirits, and all are spooked by it. But it's mind over matter dear, it's your house/room so stand up for what's yours.
But if you are really scared and know something is actually "there" let it know it is dead and tell it to go to the light. Yes, I do know how crazy this sounds, but try it, if anything it might just settle your nerves. And as someone else said, you can try prayer to soothe yourself.
Good luck.

I'm not sure this will help, but the chances that a ghost is haunting you are extremely slim. In fact, you're more likely to be struck by lightning.
On the VERY off chance that there are ghosts around you, there is a 90 percent chance that they are friendly and don't even have the ability to materialize if they wanted to.
The truth is, aggressive and destructive ghosts are EXTREMELY rare. I'm not talking one in a million, more like one in a billion. In those terms, you're more likely to be struck by lightning AND hit by a meteor than to be haunted by evil ghosts.

The fact that you don't want to come in cantact with one will pretty much keep you from doing so. Very very few people are gifted with the ability to see and communicate with the other side. If you had the ability you would know by now. Don't worry, say a prayer before bed, and keep a night light on and I promise you will be safe and fine.

I used to be afraid of ghosts also, I'm 14.
All I did to get over it was think about it, and I realised that even if there are any ghosts in my house, they haven't done anything to harm me, so why should I be afraid? It really helped me alot, but I don't really believe in them anymore..

I often feel the same way, especially after watching horror's movie. Finally i find the way to forget that 'freaky' things.
I'll chat someone or call a friend to talk about anything else.
I keep thinking about funny things, get busy with my own problem.
If i still find hard to sleep, pray for god's protection.

Pray to your god to be present and watch over you while you sleep. What ghost would want to bother you with a powerfull god watching over you?
That or if your brave enough, just state out loud, in your house,
that ghosts are not welcome here, and be sure to say "please" leave. You should be just fine.
