take two days off work....
start with three piles:
- toss
- recycle/donate
- keep
And make your keep pile the smallest.....
After the initial purge, look at what's left and put it where you would "expect" it to be if you were looking for it - generally like things or similar task items together.

As for your closet, I'd suggest purchasing one of those closet organizers they have at stores like Home Depot. Regarding your cabinets, on a day you have extra time, begin taking out stuff out, organizing it, and adding labels. Do one cabinet at a time so it wont be too overwhelming. Trust me, you'll feel much better when everything is organized! Good luck!

often when i look in my own closet i fin things that really on't belong in there it just ended up there because at the time i didn't know where else to put it. look for these items and put the away. also if you box up an store your out of season clothes it will create a lot more room. as for your cabinets one thing to look for i duplicate items o you really nee that many or can some be stored elsewhere as well. While looking at the rest of these spots tink about how often you use the items.

Go to your local $ store. The cupboard where I keep my 2 year-old's snacks and sippy cups was out of control and they have stackable bins that I use for his snack stuff. Also check at Target or Walmart. You might be able to find some of those little racks that clips to the shelf and has a little basket. This work great for sauce packets or oatmeal packets. Buy several of them for your pantry cupboard. Space bags are great. You can get 15 of them at Costco for about $23, but at the linen stores you will end up paying $20 for 3. These work great in linen closets for extra blankets and pillows. They really save a lot of space. I use the jumbo one for switching out my Fall/Winter clothes and my Spring/Summer clothes. Don't let yourself buy anything else that needs to go into the closet until you get them cleaned out and organized. I had to do this.

I clean my cabinet/storage place like once a month because it gets messy. Just find a time that you arent busy and start sorting and organizing. Throw out junk or things that you wont look at at least once a month

Buy drawer and closet organizer units...if you don't have the money for the good ones, go to a discount store and buy varities of sizes of baskets that you can place in drawers to keep things organized...store seasonal clothing in plastic bins under your bed as this will free up closet space. Get an inexpensive shoe rack to hold shoes and purses. If you haven't used or worn something in 12-18 months, get rid of it or donate it to charity

The first step is to declutter. Ask yourself these questions for each item:
Do I love it? Do I use it? Is it irreplaceable? If it does not fall into those three categories then you need to toss it or donate it. Don't keep more than you use. It wastes valuable space.
Now when you put everything back everything needs to have a home. It might help you to put everything back in its proper place if you label everything with a label maker. Put things into containers or plastic bins so that they are put away and easily accessible when you need them. Adopt the policy if you buy something new then you need to toss or donate an item so that you do not get overwhelmed with "stuff" again.
Good luck!

Find a storage solution at your local home center, hardware store or department store which is flexible and substantial. Install it and change it around until you find the configuration you want. These things can hold a LOT of stuff and make it easy for you to keep your things organized. Good Luck.

experiment with different organizing methods until you find one that works for you. youcan find all sorts of buildable shelfs for closets... or little cubby holes for shoes. Or make an effort to clean your closet and drawers REALLY REALLY WELL once, and then, every time you take something out. you put it back too. leaving no room for mess. It's one of those habits you just have to build, but this way, you can kinda start with baby steps.

A shelving system might help so you don't have to shove everything in the cabinets and closet.
Another idea is don't be a packrat, get rid of stuff you really do not have any use for.

I hate to say it but...buy organizers lol!
Those plastic bins, drawers, and containers.
They have those plastic drawers that stack, that's what I use. They come in all sorts of sizes but take care if you are using the large ones & the ones on top are very heavy the bottom ones don't want to open easily.
