If she were writing the music I would then call her a prodigy.

Wouldn't her teacher be better qualified to answer that? How does she compare to other students her age? I've heard some pretty amazing young musicians; mostly Japanese, and mostly Suzuki taught, though I wouldn't necessarily label them prodigies, just a product of lessons and repititious practicing...
