The first "PORTABLE" computer was definitely the Osbourne computer invented by Adam Osbourne (which didn't run DOS and wasn't compatable with the PC- it ran CP/M).
I wouldn't call it a "laptop", though. If you ever saw or picked up one of those, you wouldn't put it in your lap unless you wanted your lap crushed. There were other "portable" computers, but the first one I would call "laptop" or "notebook" would be the Tandy (TRS-80) model 100 which would fit in your lap easily. it was actually pretty revolutionary at the time.
