I would suggest looking at either an Acer, Toshiba or an Ausu, as they are good and reliable. Out of those three look at the Acer because they are the best value. I would suggest starting at your local computer store and tell them what you want and they will point you in the direction of what bests suits your needs. I also suggest getting a desktop instead of a laptop if you are not going to travel around with it because they are better for gaming and digital imaging.
Do not get Dell, HP or Compaq because i work in IT and around 75% of the laptops we get back with major hardware problems are those three.

Hello. I am happy to assist you today. You need a good PC, a good brand and a leading brand, whichm of course, will be a Dell.
You mentioned gaming, so yeah, it is gaming time.
When you are building a laptop for gaming, you need a good CPU, something over 1.80Ghz
So you get Intel® Core⢠2 Duo T7200 (2.00GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 667 MHz FSB)
Viewing is very essentiall you would enjoy a 17 inch screen than a 15 inch. Trust me on this one.
So you get 17 inch Wide Screen XGA+ Display
Memory, as you mentioned yourself, is very important
So you get 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz
In my option, your HDD is just fine as 200GB 4200rpm SATA Hard Drive
You want a DVD ROM to watch DVD movies, but also to burn your own Movies, so you get 8x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) with double-layer DVD+R write capability
Video card is very important, especially when playing games, so you get a high 256MB NVIDIA® GeForce⢠Go 7900 GS .
The total price is $1,523
The notebook is a Dell Inspiron E 1705 ....Description below
http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_e1705?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
With this computer, you do everything in one...
One more thing for you to know. Always remember that Dell is today's leading nominiee in computer distriubution.

If you really a gamer, I advice you dont use laptop to play game. Use desktop.
1. Desktop is a right choice for you to play game, music, movie and etc...
2. Desktop is easy to maintain and enhance.
3. Desktop is more economical than laptop.
4. Desktop spare parts are easy to get at any shops but not laptop.
How to get a good Price.
First, you go to any of IT shop ask the IT guy give you a quote. Then you hidden all the prices and shop name, and then go to another shop request for pricing from them.
From 2 shops quotes comparison, you can ask them give you a better price.
Thank you.

If you go to the Dell website, they have a sort of interactive survey that asks what you plan on doing with the laptop, what kind of storage, etc. and makes reccomendations based on that....give it a whirl!
