It really all depends on what you are looking for in game-play. If you like innovative game-play you are going to have to go with the DS. It is a better system, for gaming all around. If you want a movie player buy a portable DVD player, if you want an mp3 player buy one of those, but as you can buy a DVD player, mp3 player and a DS for the price of a PSP I don't even see what the question is here. But if you like just old school play station games you will have to go with the PSP.

Voting for the Nintendo DS on this one. A lot of it depends on the games that you normally enjoy on your console though.
The PSP has awesome sound and visuals that put it above the DS from an eyecandy point of view. There's no mistaking that. I would say that it's top games are Lumines, Metal Gear, and Grand Theft Auto. Lumines is a puzzle game that involves making squares to a good soundtrack, the level of the blocks actually translates to an equalizer to the music, so stacking on the right side will increase the treble of the music, while stacking the left will increase the bass. The other two games are self-explanatory.
The PSP has some limitations as there is no joystick for the right thumb and only two buttons at the L and R postitions at the top. Which means that even ports are limited as there are less buttons. I personally own a PSP and I like it, but I find myself usually just playing Lumines and, every once in a while, GTA.
Nintendo has the rep of being too kiddie with its games every since Pokemon starting selling the handheld systems similar to Final Fantasy VII selling the original Playstations. That's because, well, let's face it, the characters have been around for decades and they got us hooked when we were kids. Link, Mario, Donkey Kong... EVERYONE knows who they are, what they look like, and what kind of game they are going to be in. Could you picture Mario busting out a AK-47 and wasting people or Link picking up a hooker to regain life? No way, not ever!
The Nintendo DS is full of those icons with their games, this is true. It also has games that test the brain with various puzzles (Brain Age), solid role-playing (Final Fantasy III and soon Final Fantasy Fables - it's FF and you know what those are), good action games (Castlevania, Mega Man) and some first person shooters (Metroid Prime).
I'm leaving out the games that will be on both such as the Sims as it's kind of pointless to bring that up. For those games it works like this, the PSP has better looks and sound all around, while the DS has better playability (the stylus is really handy for drag-and-click tasks).
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

My opinion is the DS is better
If you don't have an ipod or MP3 the PSP might be more up your ally.
Strictly for gaming, I love the DS because the games are actually fun and interactive. It all depends on what games you buy. If you buy kiddie games it makes the DS look kiddie.
Over all you get what you pay for, if you want to pay extra money for better graphics and music capabilities then get the PSP. If you want fun, less expensive games then get the DS.

The DS is better if you want it just for gaming, and that's because the PSP has very few games that are actually worth buying.
The PSP may do other things, but the reason why it's being outsold by the DS is because people want to buy a handheld for it's games not it's features.
Bottom line, if you want to have fun playing games, get a DS.

For DS: sucks, if you like kiddie games, go for it, I don't own a DS but I tried it at Target, really it sucks.
For PSP: You could use the internet browser, listen to your favorite songs, watching funny videos, see your pictures, and play your favorite games with other gamers wirelessly, I like PSP because most games are for teen and over and the graphics are in 3D.

Well..... i have a PSP and DS both. I'll just compare them.
The DS can alert your birthday alarm. It includes a clock, calender, date, Multiplayer. Picto chat is a function which you can draw or write and send them to another DS close to you. The DS graphics are hopless. Just like N64 but sometime its ok. DS cartridges are just a small size like a micro-chip. The good thing is that you can play GBA games too.
The PSP is an entertainment system for fun times. Store your favourite songs, pictures and video clips to see them everyday. It has an Internet browser just like on a PC! Go to Yahoo, MSN, Google etc. A PSP game can be costly. They are called UMD's. You can SONY Memory stick duos from any camera into the PSP. You can put game demos too. Gaming graphics are excellent. You can put a wallpaper too.
What I prefer is the PSP OFCOURSE!!!!!!!!!!!

I would have to say PSP. It has better graphics
and you are able to play online. Although the DS
has dual screens, the little pen thing will get lost.
There are also more game options for PSP. The
DS supports Mario games, but the PSP has
many different types of games, not just Mario.

well, Nintendo make things that can play games, and only for that reason. they also make most of their games kid friendly, so (unfortunately), you cant play anything as good as halo or gears of war.
Sony, however, makes systems that have HEAPS of processing power, so people like the PSP because it can play movies/music etc., but not necessarily because of the games (but unlike nintendo, they choose to have violence)
I, personally, have been a Nintendo fanboy all my life. I have a Gameboy, Color, Advance, DS, N64, Game Cube and I am getting a Wii soon. Anyways, on the subject of which console is better, it is REALLY a matter of opinion.
Nintendo DS - Intuative Gameplay (dual screen, microphone)
PSP - Multimedia, choice to have games involving violence (which are fun games)
hope that helps
