This may not be as easy as loading XP as some here are suggesting. The word in the computing web thread circles is that some computer companies (Dell is supposed to be one) are fixing their newest motherboards BIOS to not run XP. That means no matter what you do, from a hard drive reformat to buying a new hard drive to load XP, XP will not load. If you make your own computer this is not an issue, of course but store bought ones could be a different story. Ask your computer company first and they might also tell you that even if you can load XP you will void your new computers warranty by installing XP.

All you need to do is pop in your XP Pro cd, and follow the instructions.

If you don't have a CD from a previous computer, you can always get an OEM version from your local computer store, for much less than the full version

it may be cheaper to upgrade to Vista Home Premium, a much better system to use. I think Home Basic is a waste of time, it was only made so M$ could say they have Vista as low at $99.

Edit: shellback brings up a good point about the new systems and their motherboards and/or corresponding warranties. definitely check in with your manufacturer/vendor to see what their take is on this.

Question Why do you hate Vista. Microsoft spend a lot of money to be able to customize your PC to your like it.
