When they hit concret, they hit a hard surface which makes the eggshell to break, but, when they hit the grass or other soft surfaces, they can not break unless they have been thrown with a great force. This happens because of the consistent of the eggshell which is a thin layer of calcium and other elements. When the chicken just have the eggs, they are soft until they touch the air.

They do break when they land on grass!!!! I have chooks that live down the far end of the back garden. When the children do the egg run they regularly drop eggs and they always break - grass and concrete.

The grass stops the eggs over a greater distance, so the peak acceleration is lower.

do an experiment ,
dive into the grass head first and then do it on the concrete ,if you survive you will know the answer
