A tenant where I work stated she know for a fact we are to be shoveling her walk in the winter, as it is MN law, but I have scoured our statutes, and find nothing to that effect. Any advice on who to ask this question of? She seems reliable and knowledgable, but doesn't remember where she learned this info....

That's not quite what the law says.

The law says that if the tenant does maintenance (like yard work, shoveling, etc) it must be in writing and the tenant must be compensated for it.

In other words, unless the tenant agreed to do it in writing AND is compensated for it, the landlord must do it.

It's on page 11 of this booklet: https://www.ag.state.mn.us/Brochures/pubLandlordTenants.pdf

You could be held liable if there are any dangers on your property that you are aware of but don't do anything about. If someone were to slip and fall on ice or somehow get injured because of the snow pile up you could probably have a lawsuit on your hands. Just pay someone 50 bucks to clear it off for you. Your tenants will probably appreciate it. Don't be a slum lord.

If the property is listed as commercial the owner of that property is responsible.I own commercial rental property in Ohio and i make sure that all walkways are clear of snow,Ice and any other debree that may cause or contribute to an accident.//Avoids law suites.
Laws are different perhaps in some states. Check with your city or county they can give you the correct Info.

Contact city hall and ask them for landlord/tenant rights.

Well if you have to that just means you have to have it done. You dont have to phiscally do it yourself. I dont live where it snows so I am not positive but that sounds wrong, you dont have to shovel for them.
