If you want to keep Rene as the middle name, I would get rid of Gavin. I agree that it doesn't roll off the tougue. at all. But I think that Gavin Gomez doesn't sound right either.

How about Rene as a first name? Or giving him 2 middle names, like Gavin Rene Andrew Gomez?
Or, you could save Rene for when/if you have a girl later on, and her name or middle name can be Renee
