I wondered the same thing. i thought it had to do with your best answer % that can't be as mine is higher than many and yet I am not a top contributor. maybe you have to answer lots of questions? It says be knowledgeable in the category but that can't be right as even those who answer with a few words are top contributors. eventually we all will probably be one LMAO

I don't ask a lot of questions, but I answer a lot of them. I don't have a high percentage of "Best Answers" either. I am only at level 4, but somehow I am a top contributor. The way I see it, it has got to be the amount of questions you ask in a certain category.

The more you answer in a particular category, and the more Best Answers you get (not the percentage) the more likely you are to get a "top contributor" badge next to your name, up to 3 categories. Levels, and points have nothing to do with it. I have it for answering in Yahoo 360 and Yahoo Answers categories, neither of which am I on the leaderboard, but I have been answering alot of questions in these categories recently. I do lead the category DIY and I do not have "top contributor" for that category, but I haven't answered much in that one for a while.

I have no idea its all new. I see some people who are 4s who aren't and some 3s that are. Maybe it is the % of best picked that has something to do with it.
