I personal am against it Horses have been used for meat, glue, fur and dog food as well, Every existing culture creates a hierarchy of animals. In our country and culture it is our dogs, our cats and our horses. We do not eat our dogs or our cats. And there are laws protecting our dogs and cats from being slaughtered and shipped to other countries in which their meat is eaten. Our horses deserve the same protection.

Horse slaughter is not on ballots for voters. Horse slaughter has been going on since man has used them in wars. The French use to run out and utilize the meat from horses slain in battle. And ever since this time, horses have been slaughtered for food. I agree with you. It is very sad that man will kill an animal that can live between 25 to 50 years, is full of personality and is so devoted to the human race. It is also very sad that people will starve these animals to near death and in some cases, death, instead of giving them to people that will care for them.
I have a horse that had been abandoned and was picked up by animal control that has now, after three weeks in my care, and I don't know how long animal control kept him, is starting to show his personality. This tells me that he is on the road to recovery at last. Soon, I will be able to find out what kind of training he has had, if any, besides racing. He's a ways off yet for the physical riding, but I will be able to tell about his non-riding training.

I am a horse lover and owner, and I understand that horse slaughter is a NECESSARY evil. It does not cost to "give them to t he Humane Society" but without slaughter, many unwanted/unusbale/dangerous horses will starve, suffer, and be neglected.
Yes, some countries eat horse meat. Other countries think we are just as barbaric for eating beef. It is not right for us to try to impose our feelings and views on other countries. While I would not want to eat horse, I don't see how it is any more cruel to eat chicken or beef. They areliving, breathig animals, with feelings, too.
I go to horse auctions every week and see thin, old, starved, neglected, horses that no one wants. What do you do with them? I see vicious, dangerous horses that could kill a person. What do you do with them? Dogs and cats are euthanized by the millions. I don't see any reason to sell the meat/hides/etc. for dog food or people food if the horse is dead anyway - euthanasia is euthaniasia. Death is death, and suffering is suffering.
The only thing I have against horse slaughter is the way they do it. It is not humane - they herd the frightened horse into a chute and shoot a bolt into its brain. It does not always kill immediately. I feel there could be a better, more humane way of euthanizing horses - and if someone wants to eat the meat, or use it for dog food, why not? As long as the horse is not neglected, starved, in pain or mistreated ... it's better off dead than starving in some pasture.

If you ban horse slaughter the price of horses will plummet. Whether people want to believe it or not the horse meat industry is what controlls the price of horses. If there is a ban on horses then the 90,000 horses that are bought for meat and are slaughtered each year will be worthless. There is not enough rescues in the US to save that amount of horses each year, and since the horse will end up being basically free (like unwanted puppies and kittens) anybody, even a person who cant afford to feed a horse, will be able to get a horse and eventually there will be 90,000 horses a year starving to death in small muddy pastures.

Horses are slaughtered mainly for food but they are also used for glue and pet food. Generally the pelt is used no matter why the animal was slaughtered. Some zoos will purchase older horses for feeding their carnivores and the entire animal will be used in this case. In most, if not all, of North America, it is actually illegal to sell horsemeat without a permit.
You must remember that every culture is different. While people in North America and Europe would never dream of eating a dog, people in countries such as China or Korea consider them to be common food. We wouldn't think twice about eating a cow but Hindus consider them a sacred animal and would never dare to harm one. It really is just a matter of what culture we grew up in. We consider horses pets and just cannot bring ourselves to harm or eat one. Some people grew up eating horses and that is just what is normal to them. Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do about that other than agree to disagree.

Gallop, Maria, you 2 are my heroes. The Re-corporation of a humane horse slaughter marketplace does not exist, as that means that it grew to become into humane in the 1st place. The slaughtering of horses isn't the difficulty, it particularly is how they're slaughtered, and the therapy they acquire formerly hand. That grew to become into no longer humane in the states, isn't in Mexico, and is no longer in Canada. And there are various extra subject concerns to think of of. persons attempt to get horse slaughter in Canada close down by using using drugs utilized in horses that are undeserving for human intake. Horses are actually not raised as food, and that's a significant difficulty. they're seen pets and numerous persons evaluate it to be comparable to killing your canines and eating that. additionally, because of the fact they do no longer seem to be raised as food, they might have been injected with those drugs that are undeserving for persons to consume. The slaughter marketplace additionally thinks that it particularly is o.k. to transport a horse with a broken leg on a trailer packed finished with different, terrified horses andpersistent them around the rustic. there are maximum of subject concerns with that it may be impossible to checklist all of them. So till we handle those subject concerns and remedy them, there may be no thank you to RE-set up a humane horse slaughter marketplace while there wasn't one in the 1st place.

Im trying to fully understand your question. Are you on about them being slaughtered for their meat...In that case its no different to a cow sheep pig etc.
As we dont tend to eat horse meat in the UK the horses are humanly destroyed and either used in the process of making pet food or sold to hunt yards (yep the fox hounds eat horse meat) or If you do have your pet pony put to sleep and you can afford it you can get them cremated. They are not buried as they are a very large carcase and it can contaminate the surrounding ground, and try digging a hole that big.

i know, its real sad. im a horse lover but the reason people slaughter horses is usually for meat. they used to slaughter horse to make glue!(very sad!) sometimes they kill them for their skin and fur. some ways you can help at your age is that you can sign petitons for rspca and make up a small fundraiser and then give the money to a horse charity.
hope this helps and with a lot of people helping we can stop the slaughter companies!!!:)

I don't like to see it , but it's the same with dogs and cats . There are to many and no place for them .
Also what do you do with the lame , aged ,sick and vicious . if you can't find a good home and someone to care for them .
You can't just turn them loose . Today , it's expensive to feed and shelter horses and too many people want to raise a foal out of anything . so then we have to many , not worth anything .
I guess I could go on and on . But what do you do with the unwanted ??
I feel so sad for all the unwanted animals . Most of it is our fault for not being responsible for them and allowing them to reproduce .
Spade and neuter your pets, please !!!

horses are killed for food in other countries and for dog food in the usa.
the humane society stands firm on the evils of horse slaughter, people killing horses in horrible ways. as a horse owner and a person who has seen and loved any a horse i personally can't stand to thing that wild and domesticated horses are bring killed in the usa. any horse can be killed from drafts to minis, failed race horses are often sent to slaughter, old camp horses meet their fate their, and unwanted foals often die in pain without a chance.
"Currently, three foreign-owned slaughterhouses in the United States are killing horses for human consumption. They are Beltex Corporation in Ft. Worth, Texas; Dallas Crown in Kaufman, Texas and Cavel International in DeKalb, Illinois. According to the US Department of Agriculture over 100,000 horses were slaughtered in 2006. In addition to the horses killed in the three US-based plants, thousands more are transported under deplorable conditions across our borders into Canada and Mexico to be slaughtered. "- awionline.
the way horses are killed is often painful and cruel. the rules for animals slaughter (horses, cows, pigs, sheep, and chickens) are lacking.
"Under federal law, horses are required to be rendered unconscious prior to slaughter, usually with a device called a captive bolt gun, which shoots a metal rod into the horse's brain. Some horses, however, are improperly stunned and are conscious when they are hoisted by a rear leg to have their throats cut. In addition, conditions in the slaughterhouse are stressful and frightening for horses."-hsus
the world doesn't need to kill these animals but we do so people can pay lots of money to eat them. the last link is a website that'll give you facts on voting to save the horses and all barn animals
people think it’s ok to agree to disagree about horse and animal slaughter, it’s not. very few animals are ever kill humanly. most “meat” animal are tortured before death and then after death their bodies are treated with distain. humans are as much of an animal as the horse is so why do we think it’s ok to kill and harm our fellow animals? unlike most other animals we are driven by greed and some of us even delight in pain. i’m a vegetarian and I delight in living a cruelty free life by not eating mean and not wearing leather or fur.. all “meat” animals are treated this way (even dogs and cats overseas) the world won’t change on its own, when you’re old enough to vote please vote for animal rights no matter what four legged creature it is.
what do we do with the unwanted ones, the abused, the violent one, and the unloved one. we support charities, we refuse to by from breeders, we become a vegetarians, and we refuse to vote for animal abuse. all of our four legs and winged friends deserve a pleasant end not this painful demise most meet now.
