I've had many pets accompany me on planes. I believe Delta airlines would be the best to go with. If you have a small animal, like a ferret, rat, yorkie, or cat, they can be put under your seat in-cabin. But delta also has a temperature controlled area for larger pets under the plane. Pets who have problems with traveling can be given tranquilizers and sedatives. But most do not need it.

It is not too traumatizing for them. I've been in the military for 7 years now and my dog Ben has been from New Mexico to Germany to Arizona. I have to say that he most likely did not like the fact he was on a plane but I know he would rather be wherever I am V.S. some kennel or worse........a new home. Sedatives do work....they make them sleepy for the most part. Over all the pet would want to be wherever you are!~

Its a lot less traumatizing than being on the road for a longer period of time. i had a bad experience when i bought a puppy and had him shipped via ground. He contracted pneumonia and died. From then on i have used plane transportation. I think planes have better regulations for pets and such. if you have to choose a way i would go by plane unless you plan on driving the pet yourself.

I've flown cross the USA with my bunny. Depending on the airline, it costs about $50-$150 depending on the size of the carrier. She was fine. I didn't sedate her, but did manage to sneak her out of carrier form under my seat and snuggle her in a blanket for most of the plane ride. Seriously, who is gonna tell someone to put their cute bunny back in the carrier?!? LOL

of course there will be a certain degree of trauma and upset, but contact your vet and discuss they journey details and you should be offered some form of sedative for the animal.
Research the airline you would be using with regard to animal transport and of course only put the animal through this if totally necessary.

yes, I could never do that. Did you see the dateline show that put cameras in the cages of dogs on airlines and watched them be abused and teased by the baggage handlers. They were thrown upside down, fingers poked at them and just the experience itself is bad enough.

its awful for them they get dehrydated with altitude their ears hurt form pressure although they have pressure controlled cabins but they stay in a cage and plan about 100 $ but you can have them board a seat next to yours in a cage as long as its quiet or sedated.. vets give u a sedative for the trip otherwise they bark meow etc.. it isnt natural for them.. its terribel some even die from pressure..

When most people travel with their pets, they give them sedatives for the duration of the flight. You might ask your veterinarian about that, and see what he says.
