Can someone please explain to me what that means and where it is used i know it has to do with the photoelectric effect but when will be used any help will be appreciated thanx

E~F means that Energy is related to Frequency.

usually that squiggly line means "proportional to"

so in this case, E is proportional to F by some multiplier (The first answerer might be right with Energy and Frequency, i'm not sure).

for example, W(weight)~M(mass) means that weight is proportional to mass, and the multiplier just happens to be gravity.
