the beach boxes are basically all about status, and are a symbol of somebody who has money, one recently auctioned at Brighton for $188,000 and another at portsea went for $190,000.
It is illegal to sleep in them, they have no gas or electricity or water and are basically just a brightly coloured shed that you can hang out in at the beach, and store stuff in.
here is a link to the Brighton beach box association you can check out some more info on them

The bathing boxes along Brighton beach are used only to houst beach equipment, surf boards, towles, buckets / spades etc. they are privately owned and are very rarely up for auction. geerally they are not up for rent, as previoulsy mentioned they are only used for storage and change facilities
however if you contact the the Brighton Bathing Box Association, you may be able to gain access to one

You may be able to rent them, but you would have to find out who the owners of them are as they are privately owned. Most people store all their beach gear in them and thats about it.
You cant sleep in them anyway, so not sure why you would want to rent them either. Also they arent really that big

I know that they are in Brighton and they are lovely to look at. I'm not sure if they are available for rent, but a google search would help out there.....
