You ever hear the saying "one good deed deserves another" or "what goes around comes around" well it is exactly that... If you are nice and open the door for a stranger or buy your co-worker lunch, it may uplift their spirt enough to buy there spouse something nice and their spouse do something nice for someone else... it's like a domino effect, or aura (if you believe in that) make come back to you some day, but the same happens if you are mean unfortionately, so try to be nice to people it may come back to you someday:)
