yanks, or yankees. Those are the ones I think you're referring to, at any rate. I'm sure there's more, but that's the main one, and comes from the civil war, though it's still used quite a bit.

most southerners just call them yanks and the call us rebs. At least that is what my brother and brother in law call each other. I know the term for a southerner in the Civil War was Johnny Reb. I don't remember the name that the southerners called the Northerners, but it was something Yank. If you watch Gods and Generals they use the term alot.

Several, actually. Apart from the "Y" words, anyone who went westward were called PILGRIMS. Those who do business in District of Columbia but commute to residence are known as BELTWAY BOYS. CHEESEHEAD describes those too near the Canadian International Border. FLATLANDER was a person living away from mountain areas. "Hillbilly" actually refers to those who live in mountain areas. REB'S would better denote Southerners.
