Go to start and left click on start. And a window will come up and when it dose it will say Hard Disk Drives on. It Right click on the Hard Drive that you want to scan and another window will come up. And it will say Properties down at the bottom of it.
Lift click on Properties and another window come up. At the top of that window you will see some tab`s that will say (General Tools) (Hard ware) (Sharing) and (Quota) lift click on tools. And another window will come up it will say Error-checking at the top. And it will say Defragmentation at the bottom left click on check now in the Error-checking Box at top. Another window will come up and it will have two box`s on it. If you check the top box it will scan your computer when you turn it off and back on. If you check the bottom box you will not have to turn off your computer and then turn it back on. What ever box you click after you click it. Click start if you click on the one to scan whene your computer is turned off and back on don`t forget to click on the yes button i know this sound like a lot of clicking but it is not hard to do.

I hope this can help you.

acctually what's wrong with your comp.....

but any way..... i assume u r using windows XP. the step to run a scandisk were :-

1) Go to My Computer.
2) Right click on the drive u want to run the scandisk / checkdisk
3) Click Properties
4) click the tools tab
5) Click check now button
6) tick both check boxs (this is for through scan)
7) click start

windows will tell u to restart your pc.... while restarting ur pc, windows will start the scandisk procedure just before the windows xp login page.

Have a nice day !

Go to the my computer icon and click on that.then right click on the c drive.then click on properties and then click the tools tab.The first option is what you want when you open that click the 2 boxes and start the program. It will turn on and then back off asking if you want to run it the next time you reboot.click yes. This program will check for errors and repair them for you.By the way defragment is there as well.

There is no "scandisk" in windows XP - it's chkdsk there.

However, in Win2k, it's scandisk.

In any case, the easiest way to involk it is to right click on the drive, select properties, then click on the tools tab. From there, you can perform a scandisk/checkdisk option.

In WinXP you can open a command prompt window which is found under Accessories in the Start/All Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt path.
Type in chkdsk once the window opens and your file integrity will be checked on your drive.
