fire or an explosion, methane is what farts are and u know what happens when someone sticks a match behind them during one. That is what methane does when burned. As for the chemicals or elements that are released, i believe that carbon dioxide and water are formed.

Any hydrocarbon, like gasoline or methane, when burned in excess oxygen (O2) should give off carbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O). Is that what your asking? Your question is kind of vague.

Methane will react with oxygen and reformed into more stable compounds. As shown below
CH4 + 2O2 ---> CO2 + 2H2O

The carbon and the four hydrogens split up and the carbon bonds with two oxygens, to make CO2, carbon dioxide, and the four hydrogens grab two oxygens to make two molecules of H2O, water.

I guess that It would release energy. The formula would be something roughly like this:
CH4 + 2 O2 -> CO2 + 2H2O
sorry that I can't type subscript.

It deals with electronegativity of the atoms. Oxygen is greater electronegative than carbon. which ability it has greater of an affinity for hydrogen than carbon. So if oxygen is recent it is going to take the hydrogen and bring water.

Burn in what? O2? N2?
I am going to assume its burned in O2.
CH4 + 2O2 -> CO2 + 2H2O
