My wife and I own our house it is about 80 to 90 years old, we have owned it for about 2 1./2 years, We have found out since then that the people who owned it before us did not know much about remodeling a house (they did things harder than they had to with the cheapest way possible) But anyway all day long and just about everyday the lights are flickering on and off! (they don't completely shut off they just flicker) I am wondering if they have to many wires comming off of some of the breakers, But the thing is that none of them trip. The lights flicker no matter if you have two things on in the whole house or if you have 20 things on at the same time. They still flicker, Ih you know what might be happening PLEASE HELP! Thenk you!

Seriously, you need to call a certified electrician to investigate the situation and make sure all the wiring and breaker boxes are not only up to code, but that they're safe.

You first need to check the breaker connections to see if they are tight--you need to know what you are doing and if you don't contact an electrician. The same is true for the light fixture although these can be checked if you throw the proper breaker or fuse for that outlet before you pull the fixture. I am assuming you have checked to make sure the bulbs are screwed into the fixtures all the way.

Your best bet is to hire an experienced electrician. For flickering lights to occur, there is a marginal connection someplace. It sounds like it affects the whole house, so it is probably at the box or where the power enters the house.

not somthing I suggest the normal do it your selfer to do but your proaball causes are:

1)faulty meter on one of the bars not getting full volts ( call the electric company to check it out)

2) if your lights are all on one breaker the breaker maybe a bad breaker (over time they become worn and dont make as good of a conection) if they are not on one breaker its the main breaker (good way to tell is if the lights running off outlets are also doing this then its probally the main breaker that needs to be replaced)

3) loose negatives can also cause this you would have to test lines in power off of negatives (commons) to see if there is a weak one

well when the lights flicker its a sign of some certain appliance pulling alot of electricity like an airconditonfor example.
