It can be easy if you do not have a lot of assets to bicker over, or if you can already come to an aggreement between the two of you.

But keep in mind-- in the long run BOTH of you will be forever changed financially. It is sad, but people lose an average of 70% of their wealth when they get divorced.

If you do have a lot of assets, you may want to get a good lawyer to protect those assets in the long run. Or if things get ugly and you cant resolve things on your own.

Or rethink this whole divorce thing. Most marital problems are temporary, and there is no reason to turn temporary problems into life-altering decisions.

Unless he is abusive or you are determined to end it.

I live in colorado also, but have not lived her long. If both of you want the divorce and there is not fighting over stuff, then you can get a form that you both fill out and sign and then submit to the clerk of courts. I have seen computer programs that include this form. Check with your local computer store or electronics store for software for legal documents.

Sorry you're getting a divorce, but if there are no children, go to the library and get a do it yourself divorce book. They also sell the do it yourself kit at book stores. If there are kids, those books will tell you how to cater it to your state, situation. Prepare the petition, file it with your court; get your soon to be ex to sign a waiver if he doesn't want to show up - file it like 60 days later and show up for your hearing. The judge will have reviewed your paperwork and will basically grant it if it is all done correctly. It's really not a big process.

I don't know how it works in Colorado but here in MD there are 1000s of attorneys who have free consultations for 1/2 hour. You'd be surprised at how much you can pour out in 1/2 hour. The courts also have something call PerSe and they give you papers after papers to read on making your settlement agreement. Here in MD it cost my ex $90 to file and that was it. After 30 years of marriage, that was the best $90 spent.

You can get a divorce legal document from on line site for little to nothing. You just need to complete them, sign by both parties and have two witnesses. Then file the paper at the county record.

Many states have "do-it-yourself" divorces. If you don't have kids or property to fight over, a para-legal can help you fill out the paperwork and file it with the courts.

That's how I did it here in Washington State back in 1995.

Good luck.

try a document service..they are in the yellow pages

if you have no children..it would be easier because then you could just fill out the paperwork yourself.

If you have kids you'll need a service of some type
