Almost every time I shave, the next day I get really painful razor burn on my neck. It's red, pimpley and sore as hell. I can't shave for 3-4 days afterwards which I'm OK with because I don't like shaving that often anyway (lazy, I know), but should I need to it hurts like crazy.

I've tried-
-shaving in different directions (with and against the grain)
- different shaving foams / oils / gels / just soap
- massaging / washing the skin afterwards to remove dead skin cells and stop ingrowing hairs.
- different aftershave balms / moisturisers.
- using less moisturier
- using MORE moisturiser
...

Any thoughts? It's a right royal pain in the **** (figuratively...) and I'd like to just be able to shave and not worry about a big, sore red rash on my neck that people look at and go 'ooh, that looks sore!'

Thanks in advance.

Give you face a good clean, this softens the beard, don't use disposable razers. Use shaving gel for sensitive skin, on your neck keep the skin very tight, and after you have rinsed off pat dry don't rub. One of the best after shave balms that I have found is Nivea for sensitive skin.
If this doesn't work get yourself a good electric shaver, never had much success with the Philips round headed type (each to their own). The one I use and have recommended to most of my friends is Braun (have added a link for the one I use), they have tended to be equally impressed. If you do try dry shaving use a small amount of talc on your face and neck this helps prevent razer burn.

Try "tendskin"..it gets rid of the rash and keeps it from coming.

This shows before and after of how it works: http://www.tendskin.com/b4_after.htm

If you shave in the same area more than once, you will get a rash, so avoid that by getting a great men's razor that has 3 or 4 blades and that is sharp enough to get the hair the first time.

Warm your face up with hot water before shaving, it will open the pores.

Try "St. Ives apricot scrub" to exfoliate. You said you massage to remove dead skin, but hopefully you are using the right product to do this as well. St. Ives is a good scrub and not so light, so it will do the job. Some other scrubs barely do anything when they are more gel than scrub.

Its sounds like you have done a lot to prevent razor burn, good luck.

use a really good razor, not a cheap one. i think this is your problem as you seem to of tried most things. you should look towards paying around £5-6 for a good one and good products such as Gillette balms both before and after types and a decent foam or shaving gel. shave in the direction on the hair growth too. or get an electric razor

Use a after shaving lotion cream. Also try using a shaving cream for sensitive skin. There are even razors for sensitive skin.

i prefer having a wet shave but i usually end up with rash or cuts, even with my good mach3 razor. gillette disposible razors can be ok, but i suggest u buy a good electric razor. also if its for a wet shave u should try L'oreal men expert anti irritation shave gel. it is great.
